Mountebank

Years ago, we were trying to make this at Ellusionist. Internally we called in the 'No Wallet, Peek Wallet' - but the process of making this special privacy plastic was too hard to mass manufacture.

We gave the idea back to Mark Lemon and said we can't make it work for thousands of units at a time... but he kept working on it. 

He brought the manufacturing in-house, and did it himself, in a smaller batch, more artisan style. 

Now, it's finally ready - but because of this smaller run, we only have 200 available at Ellusionist. 

Mountebank is a precision-made peek utility disguised as a completely ordinary black credit card.

A true utility isn't finished when there's nothing left to add. It's finished when there's nothing left to take away. Mountebank was created with that philosophy in mind. No electronics. No apps. Nothing to switch on, connect or charge. Just an extraordinarily simple tool, designed to be carried every day and relied upon every time.

At the heart is a specially manufactured lens, produced to Mark Lemon's own specification. From the performer's view, information concealed beneath the card is clearly visible. From the spectator's side, Mountebank remains completely opaque.

A spectator's billet can be returned to the items from your pocket and, as you place them into their hand, you see exactly what they've written or drawn, while your audience sees nothing.
