Back in 2019, I had one goal: perform magic full-time.
No backup plan. No “safety net.” Just a deck of cards and a head full of delusion that passion alone could pay the bills.
Then the world shut down. Venues closed. Gigs vanished. And suddenly, “being a performer” felt more like a dream than a job description.
Five years later, I prefer the stability of a paycheck. The structure. The security. The comfort of knowing rent will get paid, even if I don’t pick up a deck for a month.
But I started wondering… am I alone in that?
Did the pandemic change how you see magic too?Did it make the dream smaller - or sharper?Did it turn your passion into a hobby again?
I want to know where the community stands now.Not just the pros, but everyone - from bedroom cardists to working mentalists.
So tell me:
1. What were you doing for work back in 2019?2. What was your big goal with magic at that time?3. What do you do for work now?4. What’s your goal with magic these days?5. What’s standing in your way right now?6. How could Ellusionist help you get there?

1. What were you doing for work back in 2019?
In 2019 I was performing part time and making a really good living selling cars.
I’ve always been a natural salesman, and I’ve always had success with it.
When performing got slow, it was good to know I was safe and that no matter what, my family would be taken care of.
2. What was your big goal with magic at that time?
My goal was always to make it as a successful full time performer, maybe do AGT or P&T.
3. What do you do for work now?
I am in finance, selling cars led me this career and I do enjoy it, just not as much as performing…
4. What’s your goal with magic these days?
At this point, I just want to keep it alive and perform occasional gigs.
Though I wish I could do this all the time.
5. What’s standing in your way right now?
Life, I stopped pursuing my dream a few years before the pandemic because my dad was terribly sick and I had to drop everything to care for him and my mom. I was with him until he passed.
6. How could Ellusionist help you get there?
I don’t think there is anything anyone could do to help.
I can only speak for me, but in my humble and honest opinion, if any performer was told, you have time to try, and I mean REALLY try to make a go of being a performer, knowing that all responsibilities would be met… we would all be performing any chance we get. I know I would be.

Back in 2019, I was still in school, and the pandemic actually helped me improve and pushed me to learn more because of all the solitude it brought. From back then until today, my goal has been to make a living doing what I love the most: magic.
Recently, I decided — and finally admitted to my family — that I wanted to do it full-time. A couple of months ago, I started building everything I need to make it happen (my website, social media content, etc.), and I’m doing everything I can to get more gigs.
Ellusionist has already helped me a lot by producing some great magic.
So yeah, that’s my little story.

1. What were you doing for work back in 2019?
I was an indie pro wrester.
2. What was your big goal with magic at that time?
I had zero magic goals.
3. What do you do for work now?
I am a full time pro magician.
4. What’s your goal with magic these days?
Enter new markets and continue to develop new shows.
5. What’s standing in your way right now?
Time and continuing education.
6. How could Ellusionist help you get there?
I’ve had a few months with magicstream and there is almost nothing on running a business and making money. Theory, marketing, market strategies, running a business, character, and scripting are all more important than another card trick.
