A card box is shown and the performer discusses the idea of perceptions and expectations. A spectator is asked to name any card, and the cards are withdrawn from the box and placed, facedown on the table.
The performer asks if the spectator would be amazed if the card they’ve just named is face-up in the face-down deck. The spectator agrees, and the deck is spread… to show every card is face up, except the card on top. The performer exclaims that he has done just as he said he would - but continues to go through the deck to withdraw the actual card they named.
The spectator looks at the card withdrawn by the performer - but it’s the wrong suit. Not to be outdone, the performer points back at the deck on the table, to the one card that has been face down on top of the deck from the very beginning of the trick. The spectator turns it over to reveal - it’s the exact card they named.
Perception is the perfect blend of prediction, magician-makes-good, comedy and magic. Luke has been performing this as his opener for the last fifteen years, and here for the first time he reveals the working behind it.
Make Perception your Reality.
the method behind this is pretty cool however if a spectator burns your hands you kind of feel helpless so it is important that you give relevant patter to misdirect the spectator. overall it is pretty cool and i would perform this effect pretty often.
